Hardy County Geology
Interpretive Kiosks

Snow-covered informational sign at Lost River State Park in Hardy County, West Virginia.

In collaboration with the WV Department of Highways and the WV Geological Survey in 2023, Visit Hardy’s Board President, Pete Sullivan, worked to have three interpretive kiosks installed on US Route 48 (Mile Marker 97.5) at the truck pull-off. Located in front of a high rock wall, the interpretive kiosks inform visitors and the community about our mountains and the formations that can be seen as they drive along the highway, formations made visible by the cuts created during the highway’s construction.

In 2024 this work continued with interpretive kiosks located at Cranny Crow Overlook and the Administration building at Lost River State Park.
