Description

The Robert Higgins House has been undergoing restoration for its adaptive reuse as a small museum. Copies of the Master Plan and photographs of the 1990’s demolition of the adjacent structure will be on view during Heritage Weekend.

The Robert Higgins House Museum is being developed in partnership with the Town of Moorefield with the assistance from grants from WV State Historic Preservations Office, WV Humanities Council, and WVHUB’s Cultivate WV program. The Hardy County Visitors Center will occupy an addition to the Higgins House, expected to be completed (with the Museum) in 2022. The Museum will explore the architectural history of the structure and the life of Robert Higgins, a child during the French and Indian War, a farmer, a Captain in the Continental Army, a prisoner of war for three years, possibly a merchant in Moorefield, part of the westward expansion of our country, and the founder of a small town. His life embodies the trajectory of our nation’s pre- and post-revolutionary years.

Open September 25, 10am – 4pm or by appointment

Held in conjunction with Heritage Weekend and Crossroads: Change in Rural America exhibit
